Syrma Johari MedTech Limited (SJML) has launched a dedicated medical plastics and precision molding facility, marking a significant expansion of its manufacturing capability. Spread across 1.29 lakh sq. ft. of land, the facility currently comprises 0.98 lakh sq. ft. of developed space, with a further 0.31 lakh sq. ft. planned for future expansion.
The facility brings together injection molding, plastics extrusion, and stretch blow molding, supported by controlled manufacturing environments and secondary processing capabilities.
With the new expansion, SJML will also be able to address a broader spectrum of polymer-based components and consumables, from diagnostic cartridges and microfluidic components to medical tubing, fluid-management components, housings, containers, and other precision plastic parts.
Advanced Medical Plastics Processing Capabilities
The facility’s equipment configuration will provide flexibility across different polymer-processing requirements, from precision injection-molded components to continuous extrusion, and stretch-blow-molded containers.
The facility’s installed plastics-processing capabilities include:
- Injection Molding: 80T, 130T, and 280T
- Extrusion Capability: 30–80 Kg/Hr
- Stretch Blow Molding: 2.5 L PET
The facility also incorporates secondary processing solutions, supporting component finishing and downstream manufacturing requirements through:
- Printing: Screen printing, pad printing, and laser printing for component marking and identification
- Assembly: Assembly of multiple plastic components into finished sub-assemblies and products
Together, these capabilities will further strengthen SJML’s position as an end-to-end MedTech service provider, expanding its ability to support customers across the medical-device manufacturing lifecycle.
Broader Polymer Range for Diverse Medical Consumables
The facility supports processing across a range of thermoplastics, elastomers, and engineering polymers, including:
- Thermoplastics
- Polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Polystyrene (PS)
- Polycarbonate (PC)
- Elastomers
- Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs)
- Engineering Polymers
- PA6
- PA66
- Glass-fibre-reinforced polymer systems
This material range gives SJML the flexibility to select polymer systems according to the functional, performance, and manufacturing requirements of individual components and applications.
ISO Class 7 and 8 Cleanroom Infrastructure
The new facility has incorporated ISO Class 7 and ISO Class 8 cleanroom environments, adding controlled manufacturing conditions to SJML’s plastics processing capabilities. The differentiated cleanroom classifications have provided flexibility to align manufacturing environments with the requirements of specific processes, components, and applications.
Regulatory-aligned Quality Infrastructure
The facility is supported by a comprehensive quality and compliance framework designed to maintain process control, traceability, consistency, and regulatory alignment across medical-device manufacturing:
- ISO 13485 Quality Management System for medical-device manufacturing
- Manufacturing systems designed around US FDA regulatory requirements
- Processes aligned with MDSAP requirements
- Compliance with applicable CDSCO regulations
- Comprehensive IQ, OQ, and PQ for process validation and equipment qualification
- 100% digital traceability across batches, materials, and processes
- Incoming, in-process, and final inspection with calibration and risk-based quality controls
- Continuous improvement through Kaizen, CAPA, SPC, FMEA, and Quality by Design (QbD)
Infrastructure Designed for Efficient Operations
The facility’s infrastructure incorporates sustainable standards, with a focus on efficient resource utilisation and responsible manufacturing practices. Modern utility systems are designed to enhance operational efficiency throughout the plant, while a lean factory layout optimises material flow and supports streamlined operations. The layout also provides flexibility to accommodate increased automation and future manufacturing expansion.
A Platform for Continued Expansion for MedTech OEMs
The new facility marked an important strategic addition to SJML’s medical device manufacturing infrastructure, strengthening its broader offerings for MedTech OEMs.
By adding dedicated plastics processing to its manufacturing ecosystem, SJML can address a wider range of end-requirements. For OEMs, this expanded capability means greater access to an integrated, one-stop ecosystem that combines advanced processing technologies, controlled manufacturing environments, material flexibility, and regulatory-aligned quality.
For SJML, this facility is not the culmination of its plastics manufacturing journey, but the foundation for what comes next. With further expansion planned, the company is building on its current capabilities to create greater capacity, broader processing capabilities, and increased manufacturing depth for the MedTech industry.
